[edit] History

Founded at Pune in Maharashtra as Venkateshwara Hatcheries Private Limited. in 1971 by the Rao family, it mainly produced day-old layer and broiler chicks for the poultry markets of South India. As successful as Venky's have been in India, in England they are a joke. Taking the History of a proud and long established club (Blackburn Rovers) and running it into the ground. They have stripped the club of all assets and dignity in the process, whilst at the same time making more money for themselves. There is speculation as to whether they even exist given their lack of communication with the club's fans. They can f**k right off.

[edit] Status

Today, the diversified VH Group is a INR5000 crore conglomerate and a large Asian poultry company. The group has diversified into 29 fields including: poultry, processed food, animal vaccines, pharma and healthcare products. The company's Specific Pathogen Free Egg unit (in technical collaboration with SPAFAS Inc. USA) is among four such units in the world and the only one of its kind in the developing world.

Forbes ranked Venky's as 67 among the 100 best global small companies in the year 1999–2000.

In December 2010, the group launched Venky's Exprs, a ready to eat chicken outlet, in Bihar, as part of the company's ambitious plans for expansion.

On 19 November 2010, the company completed the takeover of Premier League club Blackburn Rovers for £23m deal under the name Venky's London Limited.[1][2] Following the takeover, Venkatesh and Balaji Rao greeted fans by appearing on the Ewood Park pitch, before the match against Aston Villa on 21 November 2010. Their first match as owners ended in a 2–0 victory for Blackburn. After a 2–1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers, Venky's sacked Sam Allardyce and replaced him with First team coach Steve Kean, regardless of assurances that the current staff at the club were safe for the long-term future. Blackburn survived relegation on the final day of the season defeating Wolves 3–2 and so finishing 15th in the league. After seventeen matches of the 2011–12 season, Rovers sat bottom of the table on 10 points. Despite vociferous calls from many of the club's supporters in both the media and in public for Kean to be replaced, he remained as manager of the club. After the 2-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers over 500 Blackburn supporters gathered outside Ewood Park and called for both Steve Kean to be fired and the Venky's group to leave the club. Due to the team's poor performances and the perceived lack of communication from Venkys regarding the management of the club, there have been increased calls and further protests for Venkys to sell its share of Blackburn Rovers, including articles within the Lancashire Telegraph directly pleading for action to be taken by the owners. On the 7 May 2012 Blackburn Rovers were relegated after a 1-0 defeat against local rival Wigan Athletic.

[edit] Blackburn Rovers Finances

In December 2011 it was announced that Blackburn Rovers posted an annual pre-tax loss of £18.6m for the year ending 30 June 2011. Despite this the owners of Blackburn Rovers have provided assurances over the continued funding of the club, even after their relegation in the 2011/12 season. [3]

Venky's are one of the official sponsors of the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament.
