New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg called on President Obama and Mitt Romney to address the issue of guns in light of the tragic theater shooting in Colorado.
Bloomberg, an independent and noted gun control advocate, said it is time for the two White House contenders to address the issue "concretely."
"Soothing words are nice, but maybe it's time that the two people who want to be president of the United States stand up and tell us what they are going to do about it, because this is obviously a problem across the country," Bloomberg said today in a radio interview with WOR.
When Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head at point blank range last January, Obama stayed away from framing his comments about the Tucson rampage in the context of a larger debate about guns. There were attempts in Congress to revive legislation for tougher gun control laws, but they went nowhere.
