The Colorado Springs fire has destroyed many homes and a number of people are missing as well. The fire has grown into one of the most serious disasters and diverted attention of the federal government. President Barack ObamaBarack Obama on Friday visited the city of Colorado Springs and assured of support from his side.
"This has been a devastating early fire season for Colorado. This community, obviously, is heartbroken by the loss of homes. We're lucky, because of the quick action that's been taken, that we haven't seen a lot of loss of life," Obama said in his comments during the area’s visit, as reported by Yahoo News.
Obama called for a more dedicated effort from the authorities to control the devastating fire. "We have been putting everything we have into trying to deal with what is one of the worst fires we've seen here in Colorado. We've still got a lot more work to do," he said.
A large number of residents of the fire-hit area has been evacuated to safe places. The evacuees are waiting for the signal to go back. Firefighters are trying hard to control the situation and are continuously working in their mission to extinguish the fire.
The residents, who have been the victim of this fire, are eager to know about their homes. As the scale of destruction is immense, people are depressed to know that they have lost their homes. They have lost their belongings and precious memories of the houses they had been living in. "I mean, there's a lifetime of things that people collect in these homes, and they've lost it all," Schneider, vice president of the 1,700-home community association for the Mountain Shadows neighborhood said, as reported on cbs12.com.
The authorities are considering allowing some of the residents back to their homes, as the weather is getting better. Those whose homes have been burnt by the fire are being told about the loss through official notices from authorities.
