Starr International Company announced the appointment of Lord Peter Levene as a Director of the company and its Vice Chairman.
He is the former Chairman of the Lloyd’s insurance market, where he served for an unprecedented 9 years. During his tenure Lloyd’s was substantially reorganized and expanded into more emerging markets, notably China and Brazil.
Lord Levene has held a number of high profile and distinguished public and private sector roles including Lord Mayor of the City of London, Chief of Defense Procurement in the Ministry of Defense, Advisor on efficiency to the UK’s Prime Minister, Vice-Chairman of Deutsche Bank AG London, Chairman of General Dynamics UK Ltd and a board member of TOTAL S.A. and China Construction Bank.
Starr’s Chairman and Managing Director Maurice R. Greenberg commented: “I have known Lord Levene for many years, and I believe the job he did at Lloyd’s was truly outstanding. Under his leadership, Lloyd’s prospered in the London market as well as gained admission in a number of important markets throughout the world. I am delighted that he has joined our company.”
The bulletin noted that in his new position Lord Levene would “support Starr’s position as a major insurer in London as well as further develop Starr’s insurance and other portfolio interests around the world.”
Lord Levene indicated his delight at the being selected by Greenberg “to take up this position with Starr.” He added that he is “looking forward to working with him and his colleagues on the development of their extensive international business.”
