Mitt Romney under mounting pressure from own party

Mitt Romney

GOP presidential hopeful Mitt RomneyMitt Romney has come under increased pressure from his own party to release tax returns and change debate. Republican leaders are also reportedly voicing their annoyance with their presidential hopeful over allegations that he outsourced U.S. jobs and for avoiding to say who he is.

Republicans are nervous that Democrats are ahead with voters; therefore they are pressing Romney to disclose more regarding his business record at Bain Capital LLC and accumulated riches as his camp strategists meditate on whether to retune their answer.

“He should release the tax returns tomorrow. It’s crazy,” said Republican commentator Bill Kristol, according to Business Week. “You gotta release six, eight, 10 years of back tax returns.”

Besides, Romney has taken confusing positions on several issues which has frustrated the Republicans, who want him to change debate. Healthcare is the last thing he wants to talk about. He enacted a similar mandate in Massachusetts when he was governor, calling the condition a penalty instead of a tax.

As Romney pleas to independent electorate, he is likely to come under increased pressure while fending off allegations that by taking a middle position on healthcare, he intends to gain a political advantage and that it is solely for a political purpose.

It is pertinent to mention here that the call for Romney to release tax returns comes as Romney’s top aides discuss ways to manage the subject of tax in such a fashion that it shifts that political debate on President Obama’s economic and employment creation pledges and record. Moreover, one Romney aide has said that disclosing personal wealth information rests with Romney, who has reiterated that he would not reveal tax records past his 2010 and 2011 returns.

In addition to the Bain capital allegations against Romney, Obama’s camp took advantage of the Securities and Exchange Commission record discrepancy to attract public attention to the Republican hopeful’s bank accounts and business undertakings in Switzerland and Bermuda. Obama camp’s efforts are directed at portraying Romney as a mysterious man secretive about his riches and business practices and hoping to be the commander in chief of the United States.
