Obama's day: Back to Iowa

Good morning from The Oval, on a day President Obama returns to where it all started: Iowa.

Obama, whose victory in the 2008 Iowa Democratic caucuses propelled his campaign, visits the Hawkeye State today to talk about his subject of the week, tax cuts.

In the early afternoon, the president visits the home of a Cedar Rapids family that would benefit from a one-year extension of the George W. Bush tax cuts for middle class families.

The president later discussed tax cuts and other issues in a speech at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Falls.

Republicans, meanwhile, object to another part of Obama's plan, ending the Bush tax cuts for wealthy Americans, and want to make all of them permanent.

In other news:

Mitt Romney and the Republicans out-raise Obama and the Democrats for a second straight month, reports USA TODAY's Catalina Camia.

Another poll shows Obama and Romney neck-and-neck.

Now Obama is getting criticized for outsourcing.

Is there a new bank scandal over interest rates?

Democrats and Republicans have problems with their own parties' respective positions on tax cuts and health care.

And students say school is getting too easy, reports Greg Toppo of USA TODAY.

We'll make the reading as easy as possible here at The Oval, so please stick with us as Obama travels to Iowa. Thanks for reading.
