Egypt and Hamas set strict security plans to avoid repetition of Rafah attack

Despite the objections of the Palestinian Authority regarding the Egyptian coordination with Hamas in terms of security and politics, but Egypt is still neglecting the Palestinian legitimacy represented by President Abbas and dealing with Hamas as the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

Egypt's Middle East News Agency reported, that a security delegation of Hamas arrived in Cairo to discuss the Egyptian-Palestinian relations and to coordinate the outcomes on which both President Morsi and Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh had agreed on last month.

According to the report, the Palestinian delegation will be meeting with top leaders of the Egyptian army and intelligence services, in order to discuss Sinai attacks.

In meantime, the London-based al-Hayat newspaper has reported that unidentified Egyptian and Palestinian sources said that Egypt’s officials and Hamas movement formed a joint security committee, to follow up with investigations on the Rafah attack.

The Palestinian security delegation included prominent leader in Ezz ad-Din al-Qassam brigades Ahmed al-Gaabari, security advisor to the former government Ayman Taha and deputy head of the movement’s politburo Moussa Abu Marzouq, the newspaper added.

However, Egypt launched a crackdown on Sinai terrorism in response to a recent attack that claimed the lives of 16 Egyptian soldiers in Rafah earlier in August. Egyptian police, last week, said they had identified 120 individuals in North Sinai, who are wanted for attacking police stations and killing policemen. A security source in the area said that there are close to 1,600 terrorists in the area.

In a new development regarding the recent military operation in Sinai, a security source confirmed that, Bedouins found a severed head near Egypt's border with Israel, indicating that jihadi groups in Sinai were behind the murder.

According to another security source, the head, which was found near al-Ouja crossing with Israel, most likely belonged to Mnayzel Barikat, who disappeared two days ago.

Barikat was seized by jihadi groups, who accuse him of cooperating with Israel in the assassination of a jihadi militant in the Sinai peninsula on Sunday, the sources added.

Security officials believe the jihadi organizations are behind the decapitation.

Two others suspected of involvement in the killing on Sunday have fled to Israel, one accompanied by his wife, residents and security officials told told Reuters on Friday.

Meanwhile, as Egyptian forces in Sinai began withdrawing some deployments on Thursday, to end 'Operation Eagle' that launched early August without any reason, a high-level security officials in Sinai on Friday expressed disappointment in what they called the failure of a military campaign against Jihadi militants in the Egyptian territory.

Opinion:

Briefly, Egyptian president and his government are still callow in dealing with Sinai and the parties involved in the conflict. Unfortunately president Mohamed Morsi still treats Hamas as if he is head of the Muslim Brotherhood only, and not the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. It is now 38 days since he won the presidency.

Morsi has previously promised, with what he called the "100 days plan", the Egyptian people, to touch some achievements. Nothing on the ground indicates that Morsi is reforming his country, even a little!
