Obama visits swing states before re-nomination

It's back to Iowa today for President Obama as he begins a week-long series of campaign events heading into his re-nomination by the Democrats.

Obama also visits the swing states of Colorado, Ohio, and Virginia before his acceptance speech Thursday at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Any of those states could prove decisive as Obama battles Republican nominee Mitt Romney in what is expected a tight contest; Election Day is Nov. 6.

In addition, the president on Monday will visit Louisiana to assess damage from Hurricane Isaac.

Saturday's first stop is at Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa, near Des Moines, where Obama will discuss the economy and other issues -- and this will also be Obama's first campaign appearance since Romney formally accepted the Republican nomination on Thursday night.

Education will be a topic later today at Obama speaks at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.

The president then travels to Denver, Col., where he spends the night. Sunday's campaign event is at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
