President Obama hints big policy announcement at Democratic National Convention in NY

White House hopeful Mitt Romney

Addressing a crowd of supporters in Iowa, President Barack ObamaBarack Obama said that he would give a detailed and effective “path forward” for America, then Mitt Romney, at the party’s national convention to be held in Charlotte, New York.

Providing a recap of the Republican National Convention last week, Obama said that his rival, Mitt Romney appears to have discovered a secret to creating jobs and recovering the economy, but anyone who watched the convention did not seem to understand what exactly Romney and Ryan are going to do.

"When Gov. Romney had his chance to let you in on his 'secret sauce,' he didn't offer you a single new idea. It was just a retread of the same old policies that have been sticking it to the middle class for years," Obama told the crowd of 2,800 gathered on the campus quad at Morningside College.

"They spent less time talking about their plan than just about anything else. Not just because they know you don't like it. The truth is if I had their plan I wouldn't talk about it a lot either. And they know you're not going to buy it because we tried it, you saw what happened, you lived through it, and you don't want to repeat it," he said according to a report by ABC News.

Saturday’s 17 minute speech was largely focused on taxes, college affordability and economic recovery; three issues that Obama is using to appeal the middle class voters that helped him win the 2008 elections by 9 percentage points. Now, however, Mitt Romney is running even with the President in Iowa.

Obama said he can offer a better path forward than Mitt Romney. "A path that will grow this economy and create more good jobs and strengthen our idle class and create ladders for everybody who's working hard to get into the middle class. And the good news is you're going to get to choose."

The President said that he decided to kick off his “Road to Charlotte” in Iowa because it is Iowa that chooses the path he needs to take from there.

While Obama was addressing the rally, Romney supporters made several phone calls urging the Iowans to give their precious vote to that candidate who has the ability to put the country back on track.
