In an effort to gather voters having military backgrounds, presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney and his VP pick, Paul Ryan met supporters on Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida, promising them absolutely no cuts in the military budget once they win the elected office.
"Now there’s only one place -- there’s only one place this president’s willing to cut, and not just a little. He wants to cut a trillion dollars out of our military budget," Romney told the crowd according to a report by NBC. "Look, that’s bad for jobs and it’s bad for our national security. The world is not a safer place right now, not with Iran trying to become nuclear, dangers throughout the world. If I’m president and Paul Ryan’s vice president we will not cut our military budget."
To fill up the gap in the polls, as Romney lags behind Obama, the Republicans are trying to reach out to each sect of voters who could help him win this election season. “I look around here and I see veterans, I see Air Force, I see Marines, I see Army over there, I see a lot of Navy," Ryan said before the 5,000-person crowd. "Thank you for your service to our country. You make us proud."
Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, has been trying to attract female and Hispanic voters, a significant weak point that Romney has so far failed to over come. Military voters, according to the 2008 exit polls, declined for the Republican candidate, John McCain form 54 to 44, allowing Obama to win his bid to the White House. However, this time, Romney does not want to take any chances. On Wednesday, Mitt Romney also addressed more than 10,000 veterans at the American Legion, promising them to boost the economy and create more jobs.
On Saturday, as he addressed the rally in Jacksonville, he declared Florida the most important state of America. Ladies and gentlemen, it is in our hands, it is in your hands. Florida, Floridians, you have a major say so, you have a big responsibility and a big opportunity," Ryan said, speaking at The Landing. "If Florida goes the right way, America goes the right way."
Romney promised that he would get the economy roaring back to life by taking advantage of the domestic sources of energy, repeal and replace Obama care and by creating 12 million more jobs in the next four years.
